One of these although not this exact one because it’s in Antigua .

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a JDM Toyota Aqua. No, me neither. Wiki tells me it’s sold outside Japan as the Prius C and is available in North America and a rather eclectic group of other markets. Not sold in Europe as too close to the Yaris hybrid.

You live and learn.

The Prius C was just voted “Car most likely to be doing 15 under the speed limit” here in Chicago.

Yes those are pretty common in the US.

One of the cheapest (the cheapest, now, I think?) new hybrids available in the US market, so yeah, they’re not uncommon here.

Interestingly, the Vitz (Yaris) Hybrid has since launched in Japan, which makes me wonder how long the Aqua is for the world. Then again, they added some body cladding and the smallest of lift kits, for a “crossover” trim in Japan (which is now standard in the US).

I have a customer who has an Orange one. I complemented her on having a brightly colored car and she was a bit surprised . She said that at first she hated it! but it was a 20 16 left on the lot in 2017 so the dealership had a screaming good deal on it. She also said that after a month or so she warmed up to the color and started calling it “the little traffic cone” because people always see her even if the weather is bad.

They seem to co exist, for whatever reason: there’s been a Yaris hybrid since about 2012. They’re sold in different markets which see ms rather an unnecessary luxury from the production point of view but what do I know?

The Aqua/Prius c is made in Japan, whereas the Yaris for Europe (and the US) is made in France, so that likely means the cost difference isn’t a big deal.

The Vitz Hybrid launching in Japan last year was the first time, AFAIK, that it coexisted in the same market.
